President Abbas meets Italian FM Tajani in Rome

ROME, December 12, 2025 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas met on Friday at his residence in the Italian capital, Rome, with the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Vice-President of the Forza Italia party, Antonio Tajani.

President Abbas briefed the Italian minister on the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian Territory, including Gaza and the West Bank, and on efforts underway to consolidate the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and implement the second phase of US President Donald Trump’s plan, including ending Hamas’ rule, Israel’s withdrawal, moving forward with reconstruction, preventing displacement and annexation, halting colonist violence, and releasing Palestinian tax revenues.

The President expressed appreciation for Italy’s support for the two-state solution in accordance with international law, and commended its humanitarian assistance, medical treatment for the wounded, support for students’ education, training of the Palestinian police, and the deployment of monitoring forces at the Rafah crossing.

President Abbas welcomed Italy’s role in the Peace Council and international stabilization forces in support of governance and security carried out by the Palestinian Authority.

The President stressed that there is no security or military solution for the Gaza Strip, and that Gaza is an integral part of the Palestinian state.

President Abbas underscored that it is unacceptable to engage with the occupation authorities’ plans to sever the Strip from the West Bank, including Jerusalem, to re-occupy it, or to appropriate any part of it.

President Abbas was accompanied by PLO Executive Committee member Ziad Abu Amr, the President’s diplomatic adviser Majdi Khaldi, and the Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Italy, Mona Abu Ammara.
