Germany calls on Israel to halt settlement activities in the West Bank

BERLIN, December 6, 2025 (WAFA) – The German government has called on Israel to halt settlement activity in the West Bank ahead of Chancellor Friedrich Merz's planned visit to Tel Aviv.

Deputy government spokesman Sebastian Helle stated at a press conference in Berlin last night that "settlement construction violates international law and contravenes relevant UN Security Council resolutions."

He added, "Therefore, as we have done previously, we reiterate our call to the Israeli government to cease settlement construction."

He continued, "We reject any steps toward annexing the West Bank, considering them a major obstacle to a negotiated two-state solution and the implementation of the peace plan."

He also noted Berlin's repeated condemnation of colonist violence against Palestinian civilians.
