Spain reaffirms support for Palestinian statehood amid rising West Bank violence

DOHA, December 4, 2025 (WAFA) – Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Álvarez said on Saturday that Israeli colonist violence in the West Bank has spiraled out of control.

"We have faced criticism for recognizing the State of Palestine, but we did so for the sake of justice for the Palestinian people," Álvarez added.

His remarks came during the opening of the 23rd Doha Forum 2025 in the Qatari capital, Doha, in the presence of the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

Álvarez emphasized that the two-state solution is the only viable path to peace and stability for both Palestinians and Israelis.

"The time has come to establish a truly independent Palestinian state," he stressed, adding this requires the West Bank and Gaza to be governed under a unified Palestinian authority.
