AMMAN, October 28, 2025 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas met today in the Jordanian capital of Amman, with the President of the Republic of Iraq, Abdul Latif Rashid.
During the meeting, President Abbas expressed his gratitude to Iraq, its leadership and people, for their unwavering support of the State of Palestine and for Baghdad’s important role in defending Arab causes, particularly its presidency of the current Arab Summit.
President Abbas briefed his Iraqi counterpart on the latest political and field developments in the Palestinian territories, especially the dire humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.
He stressed the importance of continuing efforts to solidify the ceasefire, facilitate the entry of aid, and proceed with reconstruction, while preventing displacement and annexation.
President Abbas also informed him of the violations committed by the Israeli occupation, colonists' terrorism, and the ongoing attacks on holy sites in the West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem.
The two presidents also discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Palestine and Iraq, and ways to enhance joint Arab coordination to support efforts aimed at enabling the State of Palestine to assume its full responsibilities in the sector, and to stop the undermining of the institutions of the State of Palestine.
They also discussed ways to mobilize Arab and international support in order to end the occupation and embody the independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
