RAMALLAH, October 23, 2025 (WAFA) – Nabil Abu Rudeineh, spokesman for President Mahmoud Abbas, welcomed US President Donald Trump’s statements to Time magazine today rejecting Israel's proposed annexation of the West Bank, praising his firm stance toward Israel on the matter.
Abu Rudeineh explained that Trump’s position came after he pressured Israel to declare a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, a demand that President Mahmoud Abbas has made since the start of the war.
The presidential spokesperson expressed great appreciation for the relationship between President Mahmoud Abbas and President Trump, citing Trump’s remarks in the interview: "He [President Abbas] is respected by the Palestinians. He is respected as a sage, you know, as a figure… But I have always found him reasonable, like, you know, you saw him come up to me and couldn't have been friendlier."
Abu Rudeineh urged President Trump “to continue making significant efforts that could achieve security and stability in the Middle East,” affirming the commitment of the Palestinian leadership “to international and Arab legitimacy, as well as the political positions announced by President Abbas in his recent speech to the United Nations General Assembly.”
