RAMALLAH, September 25, 2025 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas is scheduled to deliver a speech on behalf of the State of Palestine before the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday, held under the theme: "Better Together: 80 Years and More for Peace, Development and Human Rights."
President Abbas will address kings, presidents, and world leaders via video conference at approximately 4:30 p.m. Palestinian time.
On September 19, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution allowing President Abbas to participate remotely in the high-level meeting, supported by 145 countries. The resolution permits Palestine to submit pre-recorded statements through its President or another senior representative for any high-level UN meeting or international conference, particularly if Palestinian representatives are prevented from attending in person.
The Assembly expressed regret over the United States' refusal to grant visas to Palestinian representatives, including the cancellation of previously issued visas, which prevented their physical attendance at UN meetings.
The 80th session’s general debate continues until Saturday, September 27, and is scheduled to conclude on Monday, September 29, 2025.
