President Abbas discusses arrangements for International Peace Conference in New York with Canadian Foreign Minister

RAMALLAH, September 19, 2025 (WAFA) - President Mahmoud Abbas received this evening a telephone call from Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand, during which they discussed the arrangements for convening the International Peace Conference in New York on September 22 and ways to ensure its success and achieve its objectives.

President Abbas expressed gratitude to Canada for its position and its intention to recognize the State of Palestine in the coming days, reiterating that Palestine will honor all its commitments and pledges, implement reform programs, hold elections, and advance education, health, and social care.

The President affirmed that the priority is to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza, bring in humanitarian aid to end starvation, secure the release of hostages and detainees, and enable the State of Palestine to assume its full responsibilities there.

They also addressed the dangers of unilateral measures carried out by the Israeli occupation in the West Bank in violation of international law, including colonial settlement activity and colonists’ terrorism.

President Abbas further stressed the gravity of annexation measures in the occupied Palestinian Territory, the illegality of actions taken by the occupiers, and the urgent need to move toward a political solution emerging from the International Peace Conference, in line with international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative.

President Abbas also emphasized the importance of continuing coordination between the two friendly countries in the coming stage.
