Tulkarm: 100 days since Israel's aggression began on the city and refugee camps

TULKARM, May 6, 2025 (WAFA) – The Israeli occupation forces continue their aggression on the city of Tulkarm and its camp for the 100th day, and on the 87th day in the Nur Shams camp, amid ongoing field escalation that has caused significant human and material losses, property damage, and ongoing provocations against citizens.

WAFA correspondent reported that the city witnessed intensive movements of occupation vehicles and infantry units last night and early this morning, patrolling the main streets and neighborhoods, specifically around the Martyr Thabet Thabet Roundabout and the streets of Al-Haddadeen, Al-Alimi, Nablus, and Shuweika. They intercepted the movement of citizens and vehicles, amid provocations, harassment, and the firing of live ammunition and sound bombs.

She added that the occupation forces raided a number of homes and arrested two young men, Ahed Fathallah Al-Hamshari, an officer in the Civil Defense, from his home in the eastern neighborhood, and Wissam Issam Odeh, from his home in the southern neighborhood. They also raided the home of former detainee Hadi Al-Hamshari, the Director of Political and National Guidance in Tulkarm, and searched it, destroying its contents.

Over the course of the 100 days, the city and its two camps, Tulkarm and Nur Shams, and their suburbs, have been subjected to a stifling siege, repeated raids, and systematic attacks on citizens' homes and infrastructure. These attacks have transformed the camps and residential neighborhoods in some areas of the city into military barracks, after several were seized, their residents displaced, the infrastructure and property destroyed, and their entrances sealed off with earth mounds.

This escalation coincided with the occupation's beginning of plans to alter the features and demographic composition of the two camps and empty them of their residents. Last Thursday, the occupation notified 106 homes and residential buildings in the two camps, including 58 in Tulkarm camp and 48 in Nur Shams camp. Yesterday, it began demolishing 15 residential buildings in the Manshiyya neighborhood of Nur Shams camp.

In implementation of this plan, the occupation announced last night its intention to demolish 19 more buildings, comprising more than 50 residential units, in the al-Jami' and al-Maslakh neighborhoods in Nur Shams camp. Residents were given two hours this morning to evacuate their belongings.

Despite prior coordination with the residents to enter their homes in the camp to evacuate, they were obstructed by the occupation forces, who chased them, detained them for hours, threatened them, and fired live ammunition and sound bombs at them, including Red Crescent Society and support teams.

Tulkarm Governor Abdullah Kamil considered the occupation forces' demolition of 15 residential units in Nur Shams camp "truly sadistic," stemming from the criminal mentality the occupation pursues against Palestinian people everywhere. This exacerbates the suffering of the residents, exacerbates the crisis of forced displacement, and forcibly removes them from their homes under flimsy pretexts unrelated to any security concerns.

He reiterated his call on the international community, human rights organizations, and diplomatic missions to take immediate action and break the silence to stop this aggression against the city of Tulkarm and its two camps.

Meanwhile, the occupation continues to seize homes and residential buildings on Nablus Street and the adjacent northern neighborhood, transforming them into military barracks after forcibly evacuating their residents. The Israeli machinery and bulldozers are stationed in the vicinity.

The occupation's ongoing aggression and escalation against the city of Tulkarm and its two camps has resulted in the killing of 13 citizens, including a child and two women, one of whom is eight months pregnant.

Dozens have also been injured and detained, and the infrastructure has been severely damaged, with homes, shops, and vehicles being completely or partially demolished, burned, vandalized, looted, and stolen.

The aggression also resulted in the forced displacement of more than 4,200 families from the Tulkarm and Nur Shams camps, comprising more than 25,000 citizens. It also resulted in the complete destruction of 396 homes and the partial destruction of 2,573 others, in addition to the closure of their entrances and alleys with earth mounds.
