HEBRON, April 7, 2025 (WAFA) — The Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs said that the Israeli occupation authorities have placed locks on all the doors of the Ibrahimi Mosque, including the door to the Tomb of Joseph, the door to the "incense burner" room, the door to the call to prayer room, and the door to the room of the custodians in the occupied section.
In a statement issued on Monday, the ministry said that the occupation's actions constitute a dangerous step aimed at clearly undermining the ministry's sovereignty over the Ibrahimi Mosque, its corridors, courtyards, rooms, and internal and external doors.
The ministry added that this matter requires a serious stance from the international community, holding this unjust occupation accountable for its responsibility to protect religious sites, refrain from attacking them, and refrain from attempting to seize and steal them, especially in light of its attacks that aim, gradually and systematically, to transform the mosque into a synagogue where Jewish Talmudic prayers are performed.
The director of the Ibrahimi Mosque, Sheikh Moataz Abu Sneineh, emphasized that all the shrines and porticoes within the mosque are owned and controlled by the Islamic Waqf, which has sovereignty and legal jurisdiction over them.
This constitutes a blatant and serious assault on the sanctity of these sites, which may not be violated under any right or in any way.
The Waqf called on the people of Hebron to confront these attacks with steadfastness and perseverance within the mosque by performing prayers and various religious activities.
