TEL AVIV, March 30, 2025 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation authorities Saturday evening approved a plan for the construction of colonist-only roads that would connect Israeli colonies one to another around the occupied city of Jerusalem.
Israeli media reported that the Israeli “security cabinet has approved the final phase of a long-delayed road project near Jerusalem that will reroute Palestinian traffic and restrict access to key areas for Palestinians, drawing sharp criticism from opponents who say the plan advances Israeli annexation efforts in the West Bank.”
It added that the plan involves the construction of “the third and final section of the so-called “Fabric of Life Road,” a route intended to divert Palestinian travel to routes connecting the northern and southern parts of the West Bank without passing through Israeli checkpoints.”
The occupation authorities’ decision involves the construction of two major roads. One road would connect the al-Eizariya town to the az-Za'ayyem village, east of Jerusalem, to divert Palestinian traffic away from the Ma'ale Adumim colonial settlement bloc.
The second road, so-called Highway 80, would see the construction of an alternate route that would connect al-Eizariya to the area of al-Khan al-Ahmar, east of Jerusalem.
The occupation authorities allocated extrabudgetary funding of INS 335 million for the construction of the road that would connect al-Eizariya to az-Za'ayyem, and INS 10 million for the construction of the alternate Highway 80.
