Oman affirms firm rejection of proposals to forcibly displace Palestinians

MUSCAT, February 5, 2025 (WAFA) – The Sultanate of Oman Wednesday affirmed its firm rejection of all proposals to forcibly displace Palestinians from the Gaza Strip.

The Foreign Ministry of Oman affirmed in a press statement Oman’s unwavering position on and firm rejection of any attempts to forcibly displace the Palestinian population of the Gaza Strip and the occupied territories while affirming the need to respect the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights to establish an independent State on their national territory.

It warned that any proposals for the forcible transfer of Palestinians from their territory are a blatant violation of international law as well as of United Nations resolutions and pose a threat to regional security and stability.

The Sultanate of Oman called on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities in terms of safeguarding the Palestinian people’s rights and underscored the necessity to find a just and comprehensive solution for the Question of Palestine based on the UN resolutions, international law, and the Arab Peace Initiative that would guarantee the establishment of an independent Palestinian State on the 4 June 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

US President Donald Trump proposed to forcibly displace Palestinians from the Gaza Strip and take over the enclave which was under Israeli genocidal assault since October 2023.

Trump said during a press conference in Washington with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu late on Tuesday that the US “will take over” Gaza after relocating Palestinians elsewhere under an extraordinary redevelopment plan that he claimed could turn the enclave into “the Riviera of the Middle East.”

Trump’s proposal came after the ceasefire agreement took effect in Gaza on January 19, pausing Israel’s genocidal assault on the enclave which has killed over 47,500 Palestinians and injured more than 111,000, according to Palestinian Health Ministry.
