RAMALLAH, January 29, 2025 (WAFA) —The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates confirmed that, according to international law, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) cannot be abolished or erased. The occupying power has no legal authority to make such a decision, especially since it does not possess any legal sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian Territory, it added.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Ministry urged against supporting the Israeli decision to ban UNRWA and called for the immediate implementation of the rights of the Palestinian people, ensuring the end of the occupation, the establishment of the Palestinian state, and the immediate return of refugees to their homes.

The Ministry stressed that UNRWA is a crucial international humanitarian mechanism that alleviates the historical injustice inflicted upon the Palestinian people. It further underscored that the alignment of certain states with the occupation's decision to halt its operations constitutes a blatant and profound breach of international law and legitimacy, including the General Assembly's resolution endorsing the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice. This Israeli decision is part of broader plans and schemes aimed at undermining the Palestinian cause and denying Palestinian refugees their right to return, stressed the ministry.
