TUBAS, November 27, 2024 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation forces Wednesday engaged in massive destruction of civilian infrastructure and property in the northern occupied West Bank city of Tubas and the nearby al-Faraa refugee camp
The occupation forces escorted massive armoured bulldozers into the camp, where the heavy machinery tore up main streets and ravaged public and private properties, particularly in the downtown area of the camp, as part of an aggression that continued for 10 hours.
They besieged the camp throughout the aggression, turned a nearby house into a military outpost and deployed snipers on the rooftops of surrounding buildings, at a time when military drones hovered in the area.
Meanwhile, medical sources said that two Palestinians, one identified as a resident of the refugee camp and the other as a resident of the city, sustained live gunshot injuries after being shot by the occupation forces. Both casualties were rushed to a hospital for treatment.
In the course of the incursion, the gun-toting soldiers broke into many civilians’ houses and conducted thorough searches before withdrawing from the city and reinvading it.
Kamal Bani-Odeh, director of the Palestine Prisoner’s Society (PPS) Office in Tubas, said that the occupation forces rounded up four young men after ransacking the houses of their families in Tubas.
He added that among the four detainees were two former prisoners, while another was detained as a means to coarse his brother to turn himself in to the Israeli military.
Meanwhile, Eid Barahmeh, director of the PPS Office in Jericho and the northern Jordan Valley, said that Israeli troops detained a resident of the Ein el-Sultan refugee camp after stopping him at a checkpoint at the northern entrance of Jericho.
He added that soldiers manning the al-Hamra checkpoint stopped and detained another, identified as a resident of Marj Na'je village, north of Jericho.
Later on, the occupation forces detained a young man from Deir Istya town, northwest of Salfit, and searched several houses.
They conducted a similar raid in Nablus city, assaulting a young man and detaining him along with a 13-year-old boy.
In the predawn hours of today, the occupation forces conducted multiple raids across the West Bank, detaining at least 15 Palestinians.
This brings the total number of Palestinians detained today, Wednesday, to at least 24.
Israeli occupation forces frequently raid Palestinian houses almost daily across the West Bank on the pretext of searching for "wanted" Palestinians, triggering clashes with residents.
These raids, which also take place in areas under the full control of the Palestinian Authority, are conducted with no need for a search warrant, whenever and wherever the military chooses in keeping with its sweeping arbitrary powers.
Under Israeli military law army commanders have full executive, legislative and judicial authority over 3 million Palestinians living in the West Bank. Palestinians have no say in how this authority is exercised.
According to the latest figures from Addameer, the Palestinian Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association, there are currently 10,200 Palestinian political prisoners in Israeli prisons and detention centres, including 270 children and 94 female prisoners.
This number includes 3,443 Palestinians placed under “administrative detention”, which allows the detention of Palestinians without charge or trial for renewable intervals ranging between three and six months based on undisclosed evidence that even a detainee’s lawyer is barred from viewing.
The mass arrest of Palestinians is nothing new. According to a 2017 report by Addameer, over the past 50 years, more than 800,000 Palestinians have been imprisoned or detained by Israel, this figure is now believed to be closer to 1 million. This means that about 40% of Palestinian men and boys living under military occupation have been deprived of their freedom. Almost every Palestinian family has suffered the imprisonment of a loved one.
