China expresses support for ICC arrest warrants against Netanyahu and Gallant

BEIJING, November 22, 2024 (WAFA) -  China Friday expressed support for the arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.

In response to a question about the International Criminal Court's (ICC) decision, the Chinese Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson affirmed in a press briefing in Beijing his country’s stance in favor of global efforts that uphold justice for the Palestinian issue.

He further affirmed China’s support of international efforts to safeguard the authority of international law.

"China hopes the ICC will uphold an objective and just position (and) exercise its powers in accordance with the law," foreign ministry spokesman Lin Jian said.

Lin Jian highlighted that the ongoing conflict in Gaza, coupled with an unprecedented humanitarian crisis, continues unabated, with the Strip facing a genocide at the hands of the Israeli military.

He stressed that the top priority should be achieving an urgent and unconditional ceasefire, in tandem with taking the necessary actions to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
