OIC condemns US veto against UN Security Council draft resolution on halting Israeli aggression on Gaza

JEDDAH, November 22, 2024 (WAFA) - The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) condemned the United States' renewed use of the veto against a United Nations Security Council draft resolution calling for an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

The OIC, in a statement, expressed its regret for this position, which constitutes a challenge to the will of the international community and an attempt to protect the Israeli occupation and encourage it to continue its war crimes against the Palestinian people.

The OIC indicated that the repeated use of the veto in cases of genocide confirms the urgent need to reform the UN Security Council, which has become unable to carry out its responsibilities and has lost its credibility in maintaining international peace and security.

The OIC also renewed its call for issuing a resolution under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter for an immediate, permanent and unconditional ceasefire, stressing the need to continue efforts and take measures that would contribute to stopping the crimes of aggression, destruction, starvation and forced displacement committed by the Israeli occupation in the Gaza Strip, which resulted in the killing of more than 44,000 civilians and the injury of more than 105,000 others, the majority of whom are women and children.
