GAZA, Sunday, June 23, 2024 (WAFA) - Sick children were evacuated tonight from the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in the center of Gaza City to the Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis, south of the Strip due to a lack of treatment and adequate health care for children in the northern parts of Wadi Gaza.
According to WAFA correspondent, the spokesperson of the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS), Nebal Farsakh, reported that six children diagnosed with cancer were evacuated from the Baptist Hospital in coordination with the World Health Organization and PRCS ambulances to Nasser Hospital for treatment, due to the lack of appropriate treatment and health care in the northern areas of Wadi Gaza.
Farsakh noted that the evacuation of the six children comes for the first time since last March, when a Red Crescent convoy carrying patients from the Baptist and Al-Shifa hospitals to the southern parts of the Strip was targeted, leading to the killing of a paramedic.
A Medical aid shipment was brought to the Baptist Hospital by the Palestinian Red Crescent and the World Health Organization (WHO) today.
The health sector in the Gaza Strip has been a primary target of Israel’s war machine during its ongoing aggression since October 7, 2023.
According to the Health Ministry statistics, since October 7, 2023, the occupation launched more than 340 attacks on healthcare facilities and their staff in the Gaza Strip, cutting off medical supplies, fuel, water, food and electricity, and destroying the roads and infrastructure of surrounding roads.
The number of health workers who were killed in Israel’s ongoing aggression on Gaza has reached 500, in addition to hundreds of injuries.
The number of detainees has surged to over 310, while nine hospitals out of 36 have remained partially operational, and 130 ambulances have been destroyed.
According to documented data, the Palestinian health sector in Gaza has collapsed, and what remains serves not more than 15% of victims of the aggression, noting that hospitals are unable to serve those with chronic diseases or treat epidemics aggravated by the overcrowding of shelters and the destruction of the sanitation system.
