Prime Minister says government ready to assume responsibilities in Gaza after a ceasefire

RAMALLAH, Thursday, June 13, 2024 (WAFA) — Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa announced today that his government is preparing a comprehensive post-war rehabilitation plan for Gaza, expressing readiness to fully assume responsibilities in the region once a ceasefire and a political agreement are reached.

These remarks were made during the launch of the sixth EU-Palestine Investment Platform meeting, attended by the Prime Minister, the Director-General for Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations of the European Union, Gert Jan Koopman, and the Vice President of the European Investment Bank, Gelsomina Vigliotti.

Mustafa stated that his government has already begun implementing a significant and comprehensive reform program. "We have executed the first set of reforms in the first month since our government assumed office," he said. "We will continue with another set of reforms by the end of this year and additional reforms next year."

"On behalf of the President and the government, we appreciate the continuous support of the European Union," said Mustafa. "We value the courageous steps taken by many EU member states in recognizing the State of Palestine, and we hope that many more countries will join these efforts."

The Prime Minister highlighted the major challenges currently faced, including the Israeli aggression on Gaza, Israel's illegal deduction and withholding of Palestinian tax revenues, and colonist attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank.

"These actions must cease soon," he urged. "We rely on the European Union and other partners to exert political and economic pressure to ensure Israel's adherence to the signed agreements."

Mustafa emphasized the illegitimacy of Israel's withholding of Palestinian ax revenues, which are collected in accordance with signed agreements. "When these funds are not transferred to us, it constitutes a violation of these agreements," he asserted. "We hope the international community will act swiftly to put an end to this."
