RAMALLAH, Wednesday, June 14, 2023 (WAFA) – The Israeli army killing of Faris Hashash, 19, during an assault on Balata refugee camp was highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.
The papers said in their main front-page story that along with the killing of Hashash, the soldiers injured eight other people and destroyed a house in the camp after shelling it with missiles in order to kill a wanted Palestinian fighter who was able to escape assassination.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida daily said that Balata turned into a war zone in one second.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam dailies said four soldiers and a settler were injured in two shooting attacks near Yabad, in the Jenin district.
The dailies said the Israeli forces destroyed structures, threatened to demolish a third, and seized land near Qalqilya.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said President Mahmoud Abbas arrived in China yesterday on a three-day state visit.
It quoted Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh saying that the current program of the Israeli government is based on wiping out and changing the 1967 borders and annexing the occupied West Bank.
It reported on 16 years since the Hamas takeover of power in the Gaza Strip from the Palestinian Authority.
Al-Quds said a European official visited Al-Aqsa Mosque and stressed the commitment of the European Union to the status quo of the holy compound as a Muslim worship area.
It quoted Amnesty International saying possible war crimes were committed in Israel’s latest war on Gaza.
Al-Ayyam said solidarity continues with the Sub Laban family who is about to lose its home in Jerusalem’s Old City to Jewish settlers.
It quoted Deborah Lipstadt, the US Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism, telling its correspondent that criticizing Israeli policies is not considered anti-Semitism.
It said the Israeli military prosecutor decided to close the file of the death of 80-year-old Palestinian-American Omar Asaad while he was detained by Israeli soldiers near his West Bank village.
It said Palestinians in Israel demonstrated against the rise in crime in their communities and the complicity of the Israeli police in these crimes.
