RAMALLAH, Tuesday, May 16, 2023 (WAFA) – The speech yesterday by President Mahmoud Abbas at the special event held at the United Nations headquarters in New York commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba as well as other related events in Ramallah were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.
Each of the dailies highlighted a certain quote from the President’s speech.
Al-Ayyam said the President warned that the root of the conflict will continue unless the UN resolutions are implemented.
Al-Quds quoted him saying: Achieving peace and security comes after recognizing the right of our people to self-determination.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted the President saying: The only unblemished fact is that we were here on our land since the dawn of history and we will stay here until the end of time.
The three papers reported on the march in Ramallah commemorating the Nakba, as well as related events elsewhere around the world focusing on refugees speaking about their memories since their dispersion and dispossession from their lands in 1948 when Israel was created on their usurped homes and lands.
The three dailies also highlighted the Israeli army killing of a Palestinian during a raid of Askar refugee camp in Nablus yesterday morning.
Al-Ayyam said settlers vandalized a memorial for the late anti-wall Palestinian official Ziad Abu Ein in Turmus Ayya, near Ramallah.
Al-Ayyam said the occupation authorities seized a large tract of land in the West Bank and said that the Ghaith-Sub Laban family appealed for help to prevent settlers from taking over its home in Jerusalem’s Old City after the Israeli High Court gave the green light for the eviction of the elderly Palestinian family for the benefit of settlers.
