RAMALLAH, Sunday, November 8, 2020 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies focused today on Republican nominee Joe Biden’s winning of the US election and the defeat of his rival and incumbent President and Republican nominee Donald Trump.
In its main news story, Al-Quds wrote in bold black: “Americans breathe a sigh of relief and take to the streets in celebrations, as Joe Biden wins the US election.”
Al-Ayyam also wrote in its main story in bold red: “The world breathes a sigh of relief: Trump loses, Biden wins the US election.”
Al-Hayat al-Jadida also wrote in bold black: “Biden wins the US election and Trump declines to admit his defeat.”
The three dailies said world leaders expressed their congratulations to US President-elect Biden after four years of tensions under controversial President Donald Trump.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Ayyam said the government of Belgium condemned the Israeli government’s destruction of Belgian-funded homes in occupied West Bank and urged Israel to compensate the Palestinians affected by these destructions.
Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida said Palestine yesterday registered 431 new infections and one death of coronavirus, in addition to 438 new recoveries.
Al-Ayyam quoted Minister of Health Mai Alkiala as saying that Palestine was bracing for the highest number of daily coronavirus infections during the upcoming winter.
Al-Quds said a Palestinian fisherman was injured yesterday in an attack by Israeli naviy on Palestinian fishermen sailing off the Gaza shore.
The three dailies said thousands of Israelis demonstrated last night for the 20th week in a row, calling on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to step down over long-running criminal corruption charges and mishandling of the coronavirus crisis.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said Egypt yesterday condemned the demolition of more than 70 houses and structures by the Israeli occupation forces in the Palestinian village of Humsa al-Buqaa in the Jordan Valley, in the occupied West Bank.
