JERUSALEM, September 9, 2013 (WAFA) – Statements by the Israeli police commissioner, Yohanan Danino, regarding “the right” of Jews to enter al-Aqsa Mosque since it is also a holy place for them has caused wide concern among Palestinian Muslims.

Danino was quoted as saying that the police will allow Jews to visit al-Aqsa Mosque compound because it is also their Temple Mount, considering this as “an undisputed right for Jews.”

Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, which also includes the Dome of the Rock located in the Old City of Jerusalem, is the third holiest site for Muslims.

Jews also believe that it was the site of their Jewish temples and are trying to get permission to share it with Muslims, who strongly reject this idea in fear that the Jewish groups want actually to eventually take over the compound, destroy the Muslim shrines and build the third Jewish temple over their ruins.

Officials commenting on Danino’s statements warned of the danger they pose if Israel decides to divide praying time between Muslims and Jews in al-Aqsa compound.

The Israeli police commissioner’s statements came as fanatic Jews have intensified their efforts and presence inside the Mosque compound during Jewish holidays.

Jewish groups have called on followers to converge in large numbers on the compound on Thursday, the eve of Yom Kippur, the most sacred day in Jewish religion, and during the upcoming Sukkot holiday.
