Newspapers Review: Bab al-Shams Raises Israeli Fears of Similar Projects

RAMALLAH, January 15, 2013 (WAFA) – Al-Quds daily Tuesday highlighted Israeli fears that activists who had established Bab al-Shams village on land confiscated by Israel east of Jerusalem are going to build similar projects to get the International community to intervene.

It printed a photo of an Israeli soldier showing a military order declaring the village of Ziayem, where the tent village Bab al-Shams was set up, a closed military area.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida featured President Mahmoud Abbas’ meeting with his Tunisian counterpart Moncef Marzouki during which they discussed the economic conditions following the upgrade of Palestine’s status at the United Nations.

It reported on former Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman’s visit to the Tomb of the Patriarchs in the old city of Hebron after a visit to Kiryat Arba settlement in Palestinian city describing the visits as a provocative one. Its headline read: “Lieberman provokes the Tomb of the Patriarchs.”

Al-Ayyam printed a photo of Israeli soldiers watching a bulldozer demolishing four Palestinian residences and two barns east of Yatta, south of Hebron.

It reported on the Syrian escalation where about 26 children were killed and around 100 injured in strikes against several locations across Syria by the regime’s army.
