RAMALLAH, August 14, 2012 (WAFA) – A group of Palestinian cartoonists Tuesday met in Ramallah with The New Yorker Magazine cartoonist Liza Donnelly to discuss ways of collaboration.

Donnelly’s visit to the Palestinian territory, organized by the US State Department and the US Consulate in Jerusalem, aimed to exchange expertise and experiences between both Palestinian and American cartoonists.

“We talked about future cartooning and how cartoon is going to actually help in cultural situations like opening a dialogue,” said Donnelly.

Palestinian cartoonists discussed the technical aspects of cartoon and listened to Donnelly’s rich experience as a cartoonist who is mainly into women issues and politics in the US.

“I am always open for collaborating with other cartoonists,” she added. “Cartooning could be a great tool to talk about many issues, not just political issues and separation but also development and work to create a strong culture.”

Donnelly recommended Palestinians who aspire to be cartoonists to draw what they see in life and never give up.

She expressed interest in meeting Palestinian women cartoonists and starting an exhibit to showcase cartoon that people would be interested to see.
