RAMALLAH, August 11, 2012 (WAFA) – The main front page focus of Saturday’s issue of al-Quds Arabic daily was Israeli media reports on Israeli preparations for war against Iran prior to US elections.
The Israeli newspaper Yediot Ahronot reported that the Israeli army is distributing arms and food supplies to military bases. However, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is promoting war, he lacks crucial support within the Israeli cabinet and military, reported the paper.
The prime headline in al-Ayyam newspaper featured ascendance of more than 300,000 Muslim worshipers to al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem’s Old City on the fourth Friday in the holy month of Ramadan.
The daily said Israel restricted entry of men less than 40 years into East Jerusalem to participate in the Friday prayer, considered one of the most important prayer days for Muslims.
A headline in al-Quds newspaper quoted presidential secretary Tayyeb Abdul Rahim condemning the recent attack on an Egyptian border security post that left 16 dead soldiers. He also said the Palestinians aspire to establish a truly sovereign state within 1967 borders.
Al-Ayyam on the other hand reported on the continuous Egyptian military operations in Sinai and along the borders with Gaza, leading to the arrest of several suspects in the attack. The daily said that Egypt closed a total of 130 tunnels leading in and out of the Strip in the wake of the attack.
