RAMALLAH, June 6, 2012 (WAFA) – The Palestinian government welcomed on Wednesday a report by Amnesty International on Israeli violations of human rights associated with administrative detention policy and called to implement its recommendations, according to a statement released by government spokesman Ghassan Khatib.
He said Amnesty’s report, titled “Starved of justice: Palestinians detained without trial by Israel,” exposes the numerous violations Israel practices against Palestinian prisoners.
He stressed the importance of taking urgent and immediate action to implement the report’s recommendations that call for release of administrative detainees or charge and try them promptly and fairly.
Khatib emphasized that the report has yet to encompass the entire Israeli human rights violations practiced against prisoners, including torture and other ill-treatment, as well as called to hold Israel accountable by international law.
