UNRWA Cuts Job Creation Program for Palestinian Refugees to 70%

GAZA, June 5, 2012 (WAFA) - The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) downsized its job creation program for Palestinian refugees to 70% due to lack of funding as a result of the Israeli blockade on Gaza, Tuesday said Director of UNRWA Affairs in Gaza Robert Turner.

Turner told reporters there is no stability in the region because of the Israeli blockade on the Gaza Strip, stressing that UNRWA lacks funding and suffers from a 70-million-dollar deficit in budget.

He called to end the Israeli blockade on the Strip to enable Palestinian refugees from achieving self-dependency amid a severe funding crisis in UNRWA, as exports from Gaza in 2012 only form 5% of exports in 2007.
