RAMALLAH, June 4, 2012 (WAFA) – The main focus of Monday’s issue of al-Hayat al-Jadida daily newspaper was the Palestinian prisoners’ threat to return to hunger strike if their imprisonment conditions in Israeli prisons continue as they are.
The daily featured Minister of Prisoners’ Affaris Issa Qaraqe’ reporting that Israel issued administrative detention orders against 30 prisoners at once; while prisoners Mahmoud Sarsak and Akram al-Rikhawi continue on their open-ended hunger strike for the 80th and 54th days respectively, demanding their release.
Al-Ayyam highlighted a series of Israeli airstrikes targeting different locations in the Gaza Strip, resulting in seven injuries of the same family when an Israeli rocket hit a house in al-Nuseirat, a refugee camp south of Gaza city, injuring all the household members, including three children and an infant.
The daily printed a picture of the infant receiving treatment in a local hospital in the Strip, while the family injuries were reported as minor and moderate.
Al-Quds’ main front page article reported that the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, will attempt to evade the Israeli Supreme Court’s eviction orders of Ulpana neighborhood in Beit El settlement, near Ramallah, by transferring the settlers’ houses to a nearby location in the settlement, under the pretext that the land is “state property.”
The newspaper printed a photo of an Israeli sign in Hebrew at the entrance leading to Beit El settlement that read “we’re coming home.”
Al-Hayat al-Jadida printed a picture of President Mahmoud Abbas during his meeting with Qatar's emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalife Al Thani, in the Qatari capital of Doha on Sunday, and reported that Abbas thanked Qatar for its role in help ending the internal Palestinian division.
Al-Quds featured a German newspaper investigative report indicating that Israel have armed its new fleet of submarines supplied by Germany with nuclear tipped cruise missiles, providing Israel with an offshore second strike capability.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida featured dozens of protesters participating in demonstrations urging the Palestinian reconciliation within the “Must Succeed” campaign both in the cities of Ramallah and Gaza. The daily printed a picture of the protest in Ramallah.
