RAMALLAH, April 10, 2012 (WAFA) – Al-Quds Palestinian newspaper Tuesday focused on the Anti-Corruption Commission success in retrieving 10-million dollar worth of property that were acquired legally or illegally through public funds by people convicted of corruption.
News reports on the situation in Egypt and Syria dominated the rest of the Arab dailies, as al-Ayyam highlighted the escalated tension between the Egyptian army and the Islamic Brotherhood on presidency, adding that the parliament is working to hinder the nomination of former Vice President Omar Suleiman.
The prime line in al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that President Bashar al-Assad troops clashed with the opposition near the Syrian borders with Turkey on the eve of the deadline for the Syrian troops to withdraw from cities, which was set on Tuesday.
Al-Quds said on its front page that Fatah Central Committee member Azzam al-Ahmad denied statements by a Hamas official, saying that the Palestinian presidential, parliamentary and Revolutionary Council elections could be delayed till 2013.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida printed a picture of President Mahmoud Abbas on his visit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Ramallah on Monday, during which he welcomed the decision of the Council of Arab Youth and Sports Ministries to conduct a marathon in all Arab capitals to support Jerusalem.
Al-Ayyam featured an expected settlers’ march to the evicted settlement of Homesh, south of the northern West Bank city of Jenin, to celebrate the Jewish Passover.
The daily also reported that Israeli bulldozers razed land around Yitzahar settlement near Nablus, in a possible prelude to expand the settlement.
