Newspapers Review: Abbas to Send Letter to Netanyahu Next Week

RAMALLAH, April 3, 2012 (WAFA) – The prime headline in al-Hayat al-Jadida newspaper Tuesday quoted President Mahmoud Abbas saying he will deliver the much-anticipated letter to the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, next week.

The daily also reported that Abbas, while laying the foundation stone for the new Palestinian embassy in the Egyptian capital of Cairo, announced that Chief Palestinian Negotiator Saeb Erekat will meet Benjamin’s assistance on Tuesday.

Al-Ayyam newspaper also highlighted this item and featured Abbas’ reiteration that the Palestinian leadership will head to the United Nations again if Israel is not willing to resume negotiations.

The Israeli Supreme Court’s rejection of an appeal by the heirs of the late Jerusalem mufti, Hajj Amin Husseini, against the Israeli government sale of the residence, also known as the Shepherd Hotel in East Jerusalem, was the main focus of al-Quds daily.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported on its front page that a Palestinian man from the village of Ramon, East of Ramallah, died on Monday of wounds sustained when Israeli soldiers in civilian clothing shot him last week.

The three dailies reported that Netanyahu overruled an eviction order of Jewish settlers that forcibly took over a building in the Old City of Hebron.
