Abbas Briefs Obama on Letter to Netanyahu

RAMALLAH, March 19, 2012 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas Monday briefed US President Barack Obama on the content of the letter he plans to send Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the coming days.

Abbas told Obama in a telephone call he received from the US president that the Palestinian side is always ready to return to negotiations once Israel accepts the Quartet position on security and borders.

He mentioned the Israeli settlement activities and the recurring incursions and attacks by settlers in the West Bank, while the Palestinian Authority has adhered to all its obligations.

Abbas also briefed Obama on the Doha declaration and the structure of the next transitional government. The two leaders agreed to continue contacts between them.

Obama, on the other hand, informed President Abbas on his meeting with Netanyahu, stressing that the peace process, including the Amman meetings, was discussed in the meeting for a long time.

He said the peace process remains a top priority for him since the day he took office.
