PCBS: December Exports Up, Imports Down

RAMALLAH, February 28, 2012 (WAFA) - Palestinian exports increased by 11.9% while imports decreased by 3.6% in December 2011 compared to the previous month, according to a report published by the Palestinian Central Bureau for Statistics (PCBS) on Tuesday.

Exports reached $66.9 million while imports reached $318.1 million in December, said PCBS.

Exports to Israel, which represented 84.7% of the total Palestinian exports, increased by 12.9% in December compared to November 2011, whereas exports to other countries increased by 6.2% during the same period.

Imports from Israel represented 68.4% of the total imports to Palestine and increased by 2.0% in December compared to the previous month. Meanwhile, imports from other countries decreased by 13.9% in the same period.

The trade balance, which represents the difference between exports and imports, reached $251.2 million in December, registering a decrease in trade deficit by 7.0% compared to November, added PCBS.
