RAMALLAH, January 8, 2012 (WAFA) – Sunday’s issue of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies focused on different things, including President Mahmoud Abbas’ visit to Africa as well as the situation in Syria.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida highlighted Abbas’ meeting with the Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, and his speech read by Foreign Minister Riyal al-Malki on the occasion of the establishment of the African National Congress (ANC) in South Africa where he said that Israeli leaders claim to accept the two-state solution but they work to foil it.
The daily printed a picture of Abbas during ANC dinner party.
Al-Ayyam’s front page reported from Syria that Arab foreign ministers will meet on Sunday to discuss whether or not to seek United Nations help in the Arab League’s observer mission after it failed to end the Syrian government’s 10-month violent crackdown against opposition protesters that left thousands dead.
The daily said that 29 civilians were killed by the Syrian security forces on Saturday.
Al-Quds highlighted the Israeli authorities’ refusal to disclose information about state land under Israeli control in the West Bank, especially in area C.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said that the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will visit the Palestinian Territory and Israel amid increasing tension due to the Israeli settlement activities in the occupied land.
Al-Ayyam reported that Israel installed surveillance cameras and placed fake graves in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan.
