RAMALLAH, January 7, 2012 (WAFA) – Palestinians Saturday denounced Hamas prevention of a high level Fatah delegation from entering the Gaza Strip the day before.
PLO Executive Committee secretary Yasser Abed Rabbo condemned in an interview on Voice of Palestine radio the prevention and described it as “inexcusable and unjustified.”
Fatah Central Committee member Azzam al-Ahmad, who heads the Fatah delegation to the reconciliation talks with Hamas, told the radio that what happened benefits the division. He called for the implementation of the terms of the reconciliation agreement.
Mustafa Barghouthi, head of the Palestinian National Initiative and coordinator of the public freedoms reconciliation committee, told Voice of Palestine that the committee will discuss this issue along with other obstacles facing reconciliation when it meets on Saturday in the West Bank and Gaza Strip through a video conference connection.
Fatah spokesman Ahmad Assaf called on Hamas leader Khaled Mishaal to condemn the action of Hamas leaders in Gaza, which aim to sabotage the reconciliation efforts, and to prevent any similar actions in the future.
