BRUSSELS, December 21, 2011 (WAFA) – The European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton Wednesday announced that John Gatt-Rutter, acting EU representative to the Palestinian Territory, will become the EU Representative to the West Bank and Gaza Strip and United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), according to an EU statement.

Gatt-Rutter replaces Christian Berger, who ended his term this year. He is currently acting EU Representative to the West Bank and Gaza Strip, UNRWA. He is a specialist on the Middle East, having previously worked on the issue for the EU institutions and in the Maltese Foreign Ministry, said the statement.

The appointment will be confirmed following the agreement of the host countries and administrative formalities.
