CAIRO, December 20, 2011 (WAFA) – Palestinian factions meeting in Cairo to discuss implementation of the reconciliation agreement decided Tuesday to form a committee to put together a new elections commission, said Azzam al-Ahmad, head of Fatah delegation to the talks.
He said the committee will discuss names of the members of the Central Election Commission and its chairman to include a member from each faction.
He also said the issue of reforming the PLO will be moved to the meeting planned for Thursday, which will be headed by President Mahmoud Abbas with the participation of Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal.
Ahmad, who described the Tuesday talks as positive, said that Fatah will not agree to hold elections in the presence of two governments.
Hamas official Izzat Al-Rishiq said the two sides agreed to hold elections in an atmosphere of political, media and public freedom, without restrictions and with one government in the West Bank and
He said people should be able to move freely and those who had left
“We hope our people will notice significant progress in ending the division,” he said.
