RAMALLAH, December 18, 2011 (WAFA) – the Spanish Consul General in East Jerusalem, Alfonso Portabales Sunday stressed his country’s supportive position to the Palestinian cause regardless of the ruling party in Spain.

Portabales, during his meeting with Fatah Central Committee Member, Nabil Shaath, in Ramallah, said that the anticipated formation of a new government headed by the People’s Party, which has won a clear victory in the 2011 Spanish general elections, will not affect the reliability of the Spanish position to the Palestinian cause.

Shaath informed Portabales of the political developments concerning the Palestinian movement in the international arena, the internal reconciliation, state-institutions building, the Israeli practices in Jerusalem, as well as the escalation in settlement activities and the settlers’ crime-wave against Palestinians.

Shaath and Portabales agreed to coordinate mutual visits after the formation of the new Spanish government to strengthen the bilateral relations and stress Spain’s supportive stance to the Palestinian position as part of the European Union and the international community.
