JERUSALEM, December 14, 2011 (WAFA) – Aryeh Eldad and Uri Ariel, Knesset members for the National Union party, were among the extremist Jews that accessed al-Aqsa compound through Magharbe Gate after the re-opening of the ramp leading to it on Wednesday, according to al-Aqsa Mosque guards.
Israeli authorities re-opened the ramp that leads to Magharbe Gate, one of the gates of al-Haram al-Sharif compound in the Old City of Jerusalem, to Jews and tourists, days after shutting it down on claims that it was in danger of collapse.
Ariel urged the authorities to demolish the ramp immediately as it poses a danger to the public, and called to build another safer ramp to allow Jews into the Temple Mount (al-Aqsa compound) without any further delay.
Both Ariel and Eldad called on Israeli officials to allow Jews to access al-Aqsa compound through an alternative way or through one of the many other gates leading to it.
The gate is the only access way to Jews and tourists to al-Haram al-Sharif compound, which houses al-Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock. Access to the inside of the two buildings is not allowed to non-Muslims. Visitors can only walk around the yards.
