BRUSSEL, December 12, 2011 (WAFA) - The Human Rights Committee of the European Parliament (EP) announced on Monday adopting a proposal to declare an international campaign to release the Palestinian prisoners starting in 2012.
The proposal came following a meeting held at the European Parliament, attended by Minister of Detainees and Ex-Detainees, Issa Qaraqe, in which he called on the EP to adopt a clear decision to work on the release of the Palestinian prisoners similar to the decisions that was taken in order to release the Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.
EP announced that it is adopting a new campaign to release the Palestinian prisoners and sending a fact-finding committee to investigate Palestinian prisoners’ conditions and suffering in Israeli jails.
Qaraqe called upon the EP to intervene to stop the targeting and summoning of Palestinian prisoners who were released in the October swap through stopping all arbitrary measures against the prisoners, including the solitary confinement policy, prevention of family visits to Gazan prisoners and several other rights that they are denied.
