RAMALLAH, December 6, 2011 (WAFA) - Palestinian Chief Justice, Farid al-Jallad visited Rome to cooperate with the Italian High Judicial Council (HJC) to enter into a memorandum of understanding to increase cooperation on a range of legal matters between Palestine and Italy, Tuesday said a EUPOL COPPS press release.
It said that the main topics examined were HJC working procedures such as the internal relationship between the HJC and judges, with a special focus on the relationship of the HJC with the other justice authorities and the system of recruitment, career advancement and discipline of Italian magistrates, compared to the Palestinian system.
Al-Jallad, together with Head of the Palestinian High Judicial Council (HJC) Court Administration Department, Judge Izzat A. M. Mousa, and Head of the Palestinian HJC Inspectorate Department, Judge Fathi Abu Srour, participated in an official visit to the Italian High Judicial Council and Court of Cassation.
The Palestinian delegation met the heads of the International Relationship and Evaluation and Training Departments and the vice President of Italian HJC, Michele Vietti, as well as the Head of the Court of Cassation, Ernesto Lupo.
The press release said that the possibility of regular participation of Palestinian judges in the international continuous education courses organized by the Italian HJC was also raised, as a first step towards larger cooperation.
Al- Jallad and Vietti agreed on the importance of an exchange of information and experiences, which could benefit both judicial institutions, with the aim of achieving international common standards on justice.
This visit was facilitated by EUPOL COPPS and supported by the Italian HJC and European Union.
