Prisoners’ Families Appeal to Allow Entry of Winter Clothes into Prisons

TULKAREM, December 6, 2011 (WAFA) – The families of prisoners, detained at Israeli jails, Tuesday appealed to all human rights organizations, the international Red Cross and all organizations in solidarity with the Palestinian people to pressure Israel to allow the entery of winter clothes and blankets to prisoners in jails, according to WAFA’s Correspondent.

He said, during their weekly march in front of the international Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the families said that the Israeli prisons’ administration refuse to allow the entry of winter jackets and blankets to prisoners, except for some undergarments, pointing out that the prisoners are in desperate need for winter clothes in light of the extreme cold that prevails at night.

They added that the Israeli forces returned back all clothes and blankets, which they brought with them during their visit to their related prisoners, without giving any explanations, calling on all local bodies and institutions inside the 1948 land to try to enter these clothes to prisoners as soon as possible.

Head of Palestinian Prisoner Club (PPC) in Tulkarem, Halima Irmeilat said, “Prisoners detained at Israeli jails suffer a great hardship due to the Israeli arbitrary measures against them through conducting night provocative incursions to their jail cells, beating and assaulting prisoners and imposing fines and severe punishment on them.”

She considered the prevention of entering winter clothes to prisoners a “dangerous unjustified precedent,” which aims to break their steadfastness and humiliate them.
