UNRWA to Abbas: Israel Prevents Entering Construction Material into Gaza

RAMALLAH, December 4, 2011 (WAFA) – UNRWA Commissioner General, Filippo Grandi, Sunday informed President Mahmoud Abbas that Israel continues to prevent entering construction material into the Gaza Strip to rebuild constructions financed by a number of Arab and friendly states.

Abbas received Grandi, accompanied by the Director of Operations of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in the West Bank, Felipe Sanchez, in the presidential headquarters in Ramallah.

Grandi praised Abbas and the Palestinian Authority’s support to the Palestinian refugees in Lebanon, especially in terms of supporting students, building Nahr al-Bared refugee camp, and supporting UNRWA efforts there.

Abbas called on the UN body to work to end the Israeli blockade on Gaza, and facilitate entering all material needed to rebuild Gaza and meet the humanitarian needs in the Strip.

He praised UNRWA work and stressed the importance of implementing more efforts to support Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, Lebanon and other countries.

Abbas informed the UNRWA delegation of the latest political updates and the efforts made to implement the Palestinian reconciliation.
