RAMALLAH, December 1, 2011 (WAFA) – The three Arabic dailies reported on the Israeli government’s decision to release the Palestinian Authority’s tax revenues after withholding them for several weeks.
Al-Quds highlighted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s decision to release the PA’s tax money, a decision which came after withholding the PA’s revenues for several weeks as a result of Palestine’s recent membership in UNESCO.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida focused on President Mahmoud Abbas’ meeting with Israel opposition leader, Tzipi Livni in Amman, in which he said that the peace option and negotiations are the only way to achieve the principle of the two-state solution based on 1967 borders, and to resolve all final status issues, including Jerusalem, refugees, borders, settlement and security, leading to the end of the conflict.
Al-Ayyam's front page story focused on the Egyptian elections in which the Muslim Brotherhood is leading and said that the results will be announced on Friday instead of as originally scheduled on Thursday.
It printed a photo of Egyptian employees counting the votes in the first stage of the elections.
Al-Quds reported on the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics releasing a report that showed that the number of Palestinians in the West bank is 4,168,858, of whom 2,580,167 live in the West Bank and 1,588,691 in the Gaza Strip.
Its editorial discussed the Israeli government’s decision to withhold the PA’s tax money a few weeks ago, and considered it a violation of the agreements signed with the PA.
It said, “There is new excuse for Israel to withhold the tax revenues, because part of the money goes to the Palestinian security forces which maintain security in the West Bank.”
