PA’s Vision to Quartet Supports Two-State Solution, says Erekat

RAMALLAH, December 1, 2011 (WAFA) – PLO Executive Committee Member, Saeb Erekat, Thursday said the Palestinian Authority’s vision, which was presented to the International Quartet, supports the two-state solution.

Erekat told Voice of Palestine that the suggestion presented by the PA to the Quartet supports the two-state solution to establish a Palestinian state based on 1967 borders, with a minor, agreed-on land exchange, and the presence of a third party on the borders with Israel in return for a full Israeli withdrawal.

Erekat’s statements came in response to a news piece that was published in Haaretz newspaper, which presented the Palestinian suggestion to the Quartet.

The newspaper said the PA agreed to spread Jordanian forces in the Jordan Valley area and along the borders with Israel, make sure that the West Bank becomes a demilitarized zone and not establish military alliances with countries hostile to Israel.

It added that the Quartet called on Israel to propose a suggestion, yet Yitzhak Molcho, the envoy to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, said Israel will only propose a suggestion in the framework of secret and direct negotiations with the PA.
