SARAJEVO, August 16, 2011 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas ended Tuesday a two-day visit to Bosnia and headed to Lebanon, according to Palestinian officials travelling with Abbas.
They said Abbas concluded a successful visit to Bosnia, where he held talks with top leaders on plans to ask the United Nations in September for recognition of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders. Abbas has asked the Bosnian government to support the Palestinians’ UN bid.
In Lebanon, Abbas will hold talks with Lebanese officials and brief them on his efforts to get UN member states to support his UN bid. Lebanon will be president of the UN Security Council in September when Abba is expected to submit a request for a special session to discuss Palestine’s application for recognition as a state.
