RAMALLAH, August 11, 2011 (WAFA) – Prime Minister Salam Fayyad and the Swedish Consul General in Jerusalem, Axel Wernhoff, Thursday signed an agreement for Sweden to grant the Palestinian Authority €4 million to pay public employees' salaries for August.

The grant was provided through PEGASE, the European Commission's mechanism to channel EU and international assistance, as a contribution to the building of the Palestinian state.

Fayyad thanked the Swedish government for its support at a time when the PA is struggling to overcome the current acute financial crisis. He called on donor countries, especially the Arab ones, to urgently fulfill their commitment to support and enable the PA to fulfill its duties for the rest of the year.
