RAMALLAH, August 8, 2011 (WAFA) - Fatah spokesman Osama Qawasmi Wednesday said that the Palestinian plan to seek United Nations (UN) recognition of a Palestinian state promotes the two-state solution and protects the peace process from Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu’s dangerous political policy that will destroy it, according to a press release by the movement’s Information and Cultural Commission.
Qawasmi said that Netanyahu’s government policy of settlements expansion will destroy the entire peace process.
Qawasmi added that “the Israeli government is confiscating Palestinian land, expanding settlements, rejecting the two-state solution based on the 1967 borders, refusing to abide by the international law and violating all agreements signed to stop building illegal settlements as preconditions to resuming negotiations!”
He strongly denounced Netanyahu’s insistence to deceive the international community and the American congress by trying to promote his commitment to the peace process, although all he does is destroy it on daily basis, and by his failed attempts to convince the world that the Palestinian bid to the UN hinders reaching peace.
He said that “the Israeli government should be reminded that it was established by resolution 181 issued in 1947 by the same international institution, UN, from which we are seeking recognition.”
He stressed that Netanyahu’s statements clearly demonstrate that the Israeli government is unwilling to forward the peace process in the region.
