RAMALLAH, August 7, 2011 (WAFA) – Forty Palestinian prisoners at the Israeli Naqab Prison suffered from food poisoning Sunday due to eating expired yoghurt, according to prisoner Amjad Abu Latifa.
The prisoners complained of diarrhea and vomiting and were transferred to the prison’s clinic for treatment.
Abu Latifa blamed the prison’s administration which sells spoiled food products to prisoners and is responsible for the lives and health of prisoners.
He said that prisoners filed a formal complaint against the prison administration, particularly since this is the second such incident in two months.
Minister of Prisoners Affairs Issa Qaraqi held the prison’s administration responsible for the lives and health of prisoners in light of its deliberate policy of health neglect and the lack of supervision on food sold to prisoners.
Qaraqi called upon the International Red Cross to intervene and investigate the deteriorating conditions faced by prisoners.
