Labor Minister Calls on Non-Aligned Countries to Recognize Palestine

GENEVA, June 13, 2011 (WAFA) - Minister of Labor Ahmad Majdalani Monday called on Non-Aligned member states and other friendly countries that did not yet recognize the State of Palestine within the 1967 borders to do so as soon as possible.

Majdalani, speaking at a meeting for ministers of labor of the Non-Aligned countries held in association with the International Labor Organization at the Swiss capital, Geneva, said that recognition of the State of Palestine as a full member of the United Nations is in line with last month’s decision of the movement’s foreign ministers.

He briefed the meeting on Israel’s assault on East Jerusalem to undermine its Palestinian character through the construction and expansion of settlements and changes done to different aspects of the city’s life.

He said the real problem in the Middle East is the Israeli occupation, explaining that the Israeli treatment of the Palestinian people under its military rule creates a big barrier in the face of the peace process.
