Palestinians in Lebanon Commemorate Naksa Day?

REFUGEE CAMPS, June 5, 2011 (WAFA) – Palestinian refugees in Lebanon Sunday commemorated the 44th anniversary of  the June 5, 1967 war, which Palestinians refer to as Naksa Day.
Palestinian Popular committees and Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) factions in Ein El-Helwa, a Palestinian refugee camp in southern Lebanon, organized a public rally in front of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) office.

Palestinian and Lebanese officials and representatives of political factions participated in the rally, along with residents of Ein El-Helwa  and Mieh Mieh refugee camps.

Mohammad Maw’ed, secretary of Saida’s Popular Committee, stressed that the Palestinian right to return is a collective and individual right; inalienable, guaranteed by all international charters and can’t be dropped by time or negotiations.

Mayor of Saida, Abdul Rahman Al-Bizri, called to pressure the Israeli government to recognize the Palestinians’ inalienable rights.

To be noted, the March of Return in Lebanon was supposed to head towards the Lebanese southern borders with Israel, but was delayed due to Lebanese authorities’ ban against taking any action in the borders areas. The Lebanese army was also stationed along the southern borders in a state of alert, in preparation of Naksa day events.
