EUPOL COPPS undertakes Training of Trainers with SPF

RAMALLAH, May 24, 2011 (WAFA) - EUPOL COPPS’ Special Police Force (SPF) adviser and the head of the SPF’s training department accomplished a new Training of Trainers (ToT) program, which consisted of three sessions of five days each, evaluating and graduating 34 trainer assistants, Tuesday said an EUPOL COPPS press release.

Organized in thematic modules, the trainees followed all fields of expertise which are relevant for the SPF: public order, defensive tactics, police side-handle baton, communication skills, police ethics and physical training, including the performance of a Cooper test.

EUPOL COPPS’ Rule of Law section was also involved in this ToT program by giving three lectures to the trainees, explaining the legal and judicial system in the West Bank.

The goal of these courses was to evaluate their capacity to support the senior trainers in their daily continuous training among the existing nine SPF units.

According to EUPOL COPPS’ SPF adviser, results exceeded initial expectations, as the trainees showed technical capability and maturity despite their young age. Also due to the trainees proactive participation and high interest shown throughout the whole ToT.

The SPF -Palestinian Civil Police’s branch for crowd control- is significantly increasing its training capacity and preparing a new generation of trainers to provide best practices to all units. These new trainer assistants will now be driven by a senior trainer for a couple of months before facing again an individual performance checking, and to finally becoming a trainer.
